Lorien Wood Christian School invites our families, friends, neighbors, and the wider Vienna community to join us for an old-fashioned autumn evening of family fun, fellowship, and thanksgiving.
The Harvest Blessing Celebration is a new Lorien Wood tradition celebrating God’s faithful provision and the gifts of hospitality, stewardship, creativity, work, and community. Whether you are already part of Lorien Wood or simply curious about our school, we would love to welcome you.
Families and children of all ages are welcome. No square-dancing experience required!
What’s Happening
Community Square Dance
Join a live caller for simple, beginner-friendly dances designed for children and adults to learn together.
Bluegrass Music
Enjoy the sounds of an old-fashioned harvest gathering throughout the evening.
Pumpkin Patch Creations
Children can decorate their own harvest pumpkins and add them to our colorful community Pumpkin Patch.
Harvest Field Games
Try your hand at corn hole, sack races, and other traditional family games.
Harvest Pie Bake-Off
Enjoy the results of a little friendly competition among our Lorien Wood bakers.
Hearth & Home Chili Challenge
Sample favorite family recipes and see which chili earns this year’s honors.
Harvest Crafts & Activities
Seasonal activities for children and families to enjoy together.
Harvest Mercantile
Visit our old-fashioned market for harvest refreshments, handmade goods, and other seasonal offerings. Purchases support student opportunities at Lorien Wood.
Evening Schedule
5:00 p.m. — The Celebration Begins
Bluegrass music, food, games, pumpkin decorating, crafts, the Harvest Mercantile, and other activities open.
5:30–7:00 p.m. — Harvest Activities
Explore the celebration, play games, enjoy food, and spend time with friends old and new.
6:30 p.m. — Community Square Dance
Our caller will teach the dances as we go. Beginners are not only welcome—they’re expected!
7:15 p.m. — Gathering of Thanksgiving
We’ll gather as a community for a welcome from our Head of School, Scripture, prayer, a hymn of thanksgiving, and a special welcome to new families and guests.
7:30 p.m. — Harvest Finale
Pie Bake-Off awards followed by our Faculty vs. Students Tug-of-War.
8:00 p.m. — Good Night & God Bless
Planning Your Visit
Who may attend?
Everyone! The Harvest Blessing Celebration is open to Lorien Wood families and friends, prospective families, and our neighbors throughout the Vienna community.
Do we need tickets?
No. A suggested donation of $5 helps support the celebration and the life of Lorien Wood Christian School.
Do we need to know how to square dance?
Absolutely not. Our caller will teach simple dances as we go, and participation is entirely up to you.
Can we enter the Pie Bake-Off or Chili Challenge?
Competition entries are reserved for the Lorien Wood community this year, but our guests are invited to come enjoy the festivities.
What should we wear?
Come comfortable and ready for an autumn evening of games, dancing, and fellowship. Boots and flannel are entirely welcome
