Welcome From Our Head of School!

Amy Butcher, Head of School

Amy Butcher joined the Lorien Wood community first as a parent, then as a member of the Board of Trustees, and as Head of School in 2016. Amy brings a wide variety of educational and administrative experiences to her role and is excited to partner with faculty, parents, and students as we explore God’s world together and find our place in it.

Prior to joining the Lorien Wood community, Amy served as an Associate Professor of English at Crown College (St. Bonifacius, MN) where she taught many courses including Christian Literary Classics, American Literature, and English Composition. In addition to her teaching, Amy also served as the Director of the Honors Program for several years, leading a review of the curriculum and growing the program. In this role, she worked closely with many areas of the College to offer an integral, intellectual, and spiritual educational experience for Honors students. She holds a Masters of Arts in English Literature from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  Her primary area of scholarship and study is Theological Aesthetics, with a significant focus on C.S. Lewis and his body of work.

Amy lives with her husband and three children in Vienna, VA, where she enjoys a multitude of creative pursuits including painting, reading, the art of hospitality, and exploring God’s beautiful world.
