At the outset of each school year, we return to the same essential question: Why are we called Lorien Wood?
Our name is more than a label, it is a reminder of the story we share and the fellowship we are becoming. From our youngest children in the Shire to our oldest Scholars of Rohan, we stand together in a common identity, one that is deeply rooted and intentionally lived out.
We turn to the words of our mission that will guide us forward:
“Outfitting a stalwart and faithful fellowship for a noble adventure.”
Our new mission statement captures the heart of Lorien Wood. Education is not simply the transfer of knowledge. It is discipleship. It is formation. It is outfitting — equipping children with wisdom, courage, and resilience for the road ahead.
Stalwart. Faithful. Noble.
The words themselves shape our vision:
Our old mission, helping children explore God’s world and discover their place in it, remains a bedrock truth. But with a complete PreK–12 fellowship, we see the full arc of formation more clearly. We are not only helping students explore. We are preparing them. We are outfitting them. And we are sending them.
Gifts for the Journey
Just as the Fellowship of the Ring received cloaks and brooches for their journey, our students are given the treasures of faith, knowledge, community, beauty, grace, and Truth. They are not idle leaves, drifting by chance. They are like the golden leaves of Lothlórien, sent as signs of hope into the world, with purpose, direction, and beauty for a weary age.
Our Charge Together
This is the charge for all of us, faculty, parents, and students alike: to live as a true Fellowship, outfitted by Christ for a noble adventure.
Here’s to the 2025–2026 school year! May it be a year marked by goodness, Truth, beauty, and joy in the journey ahead.
